Edoko Child

E is for Edoko

As a continuation of the alphabet exploration through prints, the topic was taken up in Montypes. This is a repeat of E with another favorite word which is EdoKo which means child of Edo (or old Tokyo). This is a touchy subject with some younger Japanese who swear it does not exist but as all the pieces in this set were actually seen in some way by Jettychan, this piece can be explained quite simply as a person who wants to seem like they are from Tokyo and not from the country. While studying in Tokyo, Jettychan actually had a friend straight out refuse to ask for directions because she didn’t want to look country. Jettychan saw it many times were locals would rather wander around lost than admit that they were lost and look like they were not from Tokyo (or in a more broad term sophisticated). It is a strange concept when brought up because it is an underlying feeling that is sometimes unconscious.  It was printed on flower infused rice paper.
